Why choose a Bulova Watch

Bulova watches have a great history. Bulova has been an innovator from day one. They have always believed in making a quality timepiece. Bulova came to be back in 1923 when Joseph Bulova Immigrated to the United States. At the age of 23 he opened a small jewelry shop in New York, which is where Bulova is still Headquartered to this day. Bulova started its life as a watch company by making wall clocks and pocket watches. During World War II Bulova switched to making wristwatches, which at the time were becoming more prominent. Bulova is probably best known in collectors circle for the Bulova Space view which was the first electronic time keeping device. The space view used electronics combined with a tuning fork. This type of movement also becomes the first watch ever certified to be a railroad watch. Bulova had brought back a modern version of the Accutron spaceview, which I was fortunate enough to get a model of in the box to keep. I also own an old 14k gold Bulova 24 jewels men’s watch that I had restored. Its an oyster case Mens watch. Its a great collectors item. Bulova watches are still being produced today. They are still making accutrons as well as many other models that are innovative watches with precision parts. Anyone that has ever owned a Bulova will tell you that they are great time pieces that are made to last as well as looking great. Bulova also has a great selection of women’s watches. One of the watches I found interesting is made to be hypoallergenic for anyone that has problems with their skin getting easily irritated. Keeping with tradition there are also 2 pocket watch models still in production. A few mechanical movements are still available by this watchmaker. Bulova makes many different models designed for all lifestyles. You can find dress watches, Chronographs as well as modern designs in all categories. One of my favorites is there tank style chronograph. So if you are looking for a quality watch with a rich history and precise movement at a reasonable price, a bulova watch is the right timepiece for you.

Omega watches and there being sold on the web. Also the famous Moon watch.

Omega watches are some of the most prestige’s and classic timepieces in existence today.
The Omega Speedmaster, which is more commonly known as the moon watch, is a manual wind chronograph with a tachometric scale bezel. This watch was chosen by NASA over 12 other brands to be the watch used in space missions. This Chronograph went thru extensive testing including exposure to extreme temperatures, vacuums, humidity, corrosion, shock, extreme acceleration, pressure, noise and vibrations. Making this a timepiece that has proven itself worthy under extreme conditions it is definitely one you can trust. To this day this is the only watch that was ever worn on the moon. It is also the only chronograph that was flight qualified for extra vehicular use by NASA. The Russian Space agency NPO Energija also uses this Omega for their Astronauts. The Seahorse that you can see on Speedmasters and some other Omegas originated on the Moon watch. This chronograph has become so popular there is now a speedmaster line that have different styles that appeal to men and women.
This is not the only quality watch that Omega makes. I personally own 2 vintage Omega's. One is a 70's Constellation and the other is a Omega Seamaster. I have loved both these timepieces. They are quite accurate and have served me well.
Let me talk about Omega's ongoing attempt to keep the Omega line off of the internet. The companies stance is that they do not want any of their watches sold over the internet and that anyone who is selling their brand on the net is selling either fakes or watches of dubious origin. Well let me address this. What is happening is the following. Omega is really serous about no one selling there products on the net however as one day they will find out there is no way that you can keep stuff if the net. Well the Omegas that you can generally buy from websites unless they are used have the serial numbers removed this is because Omega will come and buy a watch from you and track the serial number back to the account they sold it to. Then they will shut down the account and no longer sell watches to them therefore when a new Omega watch is sold over the internet the serial numbers are removed from the movement so that there is no way to track the number back to the original account it was purchased under. These watches are covered by a 2 year warranty which equals Omegas own warranty. I hope this makes sense to anyone reading this. Basically the serial numbers are removed so the watch cannot be tracked back to the account that originally purchased it from Omega. Since there are not any serial numbers present the watches are warranted by the company that is distributing them over the web since Omega will not do warranty work on any watch that does not have a serial number. So I guess its up to you, pay full list for a Omega or save 10 to 20 percent for the same watch without a serial number. No one will ever know the difference except for a jeweler that can pop open the case.
I have a real love for Omega watches I love their style and the precision movements cant be beat. My old Omega Constellation still keeps time accurately I have had it cleaned once in the last 7 years. That is about the biggest pain about having a watch that actually has a movement verses quartz watches without any moving parts. Personally I just like the fact that there are tiny moving parts in there that are working in conjunction with each other in order to precisely keep time. The draw back is that these watches do need maintenance from time to time other then that they are great, besides I like the ticking sound that they make. I have an old Cortebert which ticks like a tractor. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on a moonwatch sometime soon. It is my next watch that or a Tag Heuer Monaco. I just ran across the Monaco the other day and I have to say it is a really neat looking watch. I would probably take it right off of the original band and stick it on a leather band which probably would freak out most people want ing a tag.
If you got a cool watch that is either a classic or new and interesting post a comment and share it with us.

How Cool Are Seiko Kinetic Watches

Before we get in to the subject of kinetic wristwatches here is a little back ground on the company and how it all began. The Seiko Corporation was actually preceded by Kintaro Hattori of K. Hattori & Co., Ltd., which eventually evolved in to the Company now known as Seiko. in 1902 they started producing table clocks and musical clocks. in 1913 the firs wristwatch is produced in Japan. In 1924 the first watch that bears the name of Seiko is produced. In 1955 the first self-winding watch is produced in Japan. These types of watches did not require winding they would wind themselves by the movement of the wearers wrist. In 1964 this watch company is the official timer of the Olympic games in Tokyo. Five years later they introduce the first quartz watch called the Seiko Astron. In the 70's the first American subsidiary was established. Between 1970 and 1979 subsidiaries were established in The UK, Canada, Germany, Brazil, Australia, Panama, Switzerland and Sweden. So you can see there was significant expansion in those years. The 80's brought more subsidiaries being established in the Netherlands, Dubai and Thailand. Not only this but also the worlds first talking clock the Seiko Pyramid talk is introduced as well as an introduction of a quartz watch with a sweep second hand and the world's first automatic power generating quartz watch which is today’s modern kinetic. The first intelligent analogue quartz watch with alarm, chronograph and timer functions controlled by an IC "computer on a chip." is also introduced.

Ok lets talk about Seiko Kinetic watches and how they basically work.
Kinetic watches are powered off of the movement of the wrist.
This is much like the old automatics however with a major improvement. Back then an automatic or self winding wristwatch would stay running and winding itself as long as it was worn however once you took it off in a few days it would stop therefore requiring you to reset the time next time it is worn. Now one way to eliminate this is to buy a watch winder which keeps the watch wound while it is not being worn. Now Seiko Kinetic watches are much more sophisticated then automatics they also use the movement of the wearer for power but with the major difference being that that power is transferred via an oscillating weight. This oscillating weight can spin 100,000 rpms faster then a formula one race car. A generating coil block is used to turn the magnetic charge of the rotor in to electricity to power the watch. Also the extra energy is stored in the kinetic watches energy unit which stores enough energy to keep the watch working for months without it having to be worn. There are many kinetic watches available. The kinetic auto relay is capable of Energy storage for up to 4 years of time memory. Sportura Kinetic watches are the high end of this type of watch which cost from $450 to $2500. A Regular kinetic will set you back anywhere from $225 to around $500. I think these are the nicest most technologically advanced watches available with the exception of Citizens Ecodrive wristwatches.

Casio watches and wrist watch technology

Casio has really made some impressive timepieces. Being a huge company that makes Pda's and other electronic devices it is not surprising to see casio make wristwatches chalked full of technology. Casio watches seem to appeal to the young and to those of us that I like to call propeller heads as well as anyone that needs a rugged watch that can take abuse and also keep time as well as many other features. The propeller head watches are for people that love gadgets. Like Casio’s camera watch that takes full color pictures. Not to mention the remote control watches that work on Vcrs and TV’s of several different brands. Telememo watches are also nice for those of us that need to have information on the fly. The Casio data bank is one that fills that slot nicely. For the outdoorsman you have timepieces with other useful functions like a digital compass, thermometer, barometer, altitude measure and more. There is even one timepiece that measures the phases of the moon and features a tide graph. This is some of the functions that you will find in the pathfinder series. This series is great for any outdoorsman. Almost all of the pathfinder series also have features like daily alarms, some memory function, countdown timer, stop watch, are water resistant and some are now even solar powered so you never need to replace a battery. The g shock and baby g shock series of watches is probably one of there most popular creations. These are very popular with the younger generation as well as people that require a timepiece that is extremely durable. There are so many g shock and baby g shock models that I am only going to mention a few that I personally care for. Before I start let me say that there a variety of colors in this line. A lot of the Baby g watches are made quite colorful and probably appeal more to women then men, however there are also some in this line that are definitely rugged and made with appeal to a man. G shock has so many different types of models there is bound to be one to fit anyone’s needs. There are databank models with telememo functions, almost all have daily alarms and stop watch functions. There are world timers and twin sensor as well as solar powered atomic clock models available. Most are made from plastic and have a shock resistant housing. There are stainless steel as well as titanium models around and some are a combination of steel and plastic or rubber. There is also one model out now that has a leather cuff band which is becoming a popular look these days. There is surfer model now with a square face that I had never seen before. It has a tide graph. Ok let’s get to the Baby G shock models. These are quite similar to the regular G shock but are smaller in size making them not as bulky. These come in all kinds of colors from pink to baby blue to stainless steel or titanium. So there is something to appeal to almost everyone in this line. Of course these are all shock resistant like their big brother. All types of functions are available. there are solar powered baby g 's. Some are made from titanium, plastic and rubber or stainless steel. Functions like tele memo pages, daily alarms, countdown timer, stop watch and more can all be found in this line up. Casio also make a line called twin resist that is mud resistant. We have actually sold quite a few of these to the military because of there ruggedness. Casio wave ceptors are the atomic clock line by casio. These watches adjust automatically to the Atomic clock. Or you can push a button and have it update and adjust itself when you like.
